About The Artist

Clay Vorhes (born 1968 in Sacramento, CA) is a painter based in Sacramento, known for creating works that bridge the gap between abstraction and representation. His compositions often feature intricate networks of lines, which, at first glance, appear as geometric abstractions. As viewers move closer, however, they discover that these lines contain small figures—acrobats, gymnasts, dancers—who bring life and movement to the scene. These figures engage with the underlying geometry, making the abstract feel vital and human.

Vorhes’s work is celebrated for its exploration of balance, risk, and resilience, themes that are brought to life through the daring feats of the figures within his paintings. He holds a degree in Fine Arts and has exhibited widely, including solo shows at prominent galleries such as Skidmore Contemporary Art in Santa Monica and Gerald Peters Contemporary in Santa Fe. His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including the Crocker Art Museum’s Annual Art Auction and California Cool at the Laguna Art Museum.

Based in Sacramento, Vorhes has participated in over a decade of exhibitions and fairs, including artMRKT San Francisco and ArtHamptons. His work is held in various collections, and he continues to inspire audiences with his unique fusion of abstraction and human narrative.
